Scrumptious New Ergo Soy Candles at Dovetail!

We just received an order of scrumptious new, hand-poured, 100% soy candles by Ergo.  These fragrant candles are so potent that one can fill an entire room but the scents are delicate enough not to overpower.  Another reason why we love Ergo so much is that their scents are gender-neutral--nothing is too floral or fruity so the candles can be enjoyed by everyone.

The scents listed below are 7oz candles that burn for 60 hours ($24).  We also carry a selection of 2oz candles, letting you try a few scents out before deciding on one of the larger candles ($6).

Our favorite scents include:

Moroccan Cedar: Cedar with hints of incense, woodsy with a touch of sweetness. This candle is a bit on the masculine side, making it a great choice for those who tend to stray from normal candle offerings.  Great for a crisp night at home.

Mighty Oak:  Another woodsy scent.  Like Moroccan Cedar, Mighty Oak is masculine and reminds of cologne.  This candle is usually a winner with our male customers.

Sage Pine: This scent is a big hit at Dovetail. Clean, fresh, and green, with notes of sage, eucalyptus, and tea tree oil. Refreshing and bright.  Perfect for weekend mornings, while the sun is streaming through the windows during your deliciously unrushed morning coffee.

Dark Chocolate:  Like actual dark chocolate, this candle is rich, deep, and not too sweet. Velvety with subtle hints of hazelnut. A great way to wind down at the end of a hectic work day.

Pomegranate:  This is one of the sweeter scents in our collection at Dovetail.  But like real pomegranate, it's sweetness is subtle and comes packed with an even amount of tartness.  Its warm and fruity notes are stimulating, making this candle perfect for early mornings and afternoons.

Monkey Grass:  This candle is both sweet and green.  It has heavy grassy notes complemented and balanced by softer, powdery scents.  Monkey Grass is clean, neutral, and refreshing.  A great candle to burn anytime.

Eucalyptus:  Ergo really got it right with their Eucalyptus candle; it actually smells very little like actual eucalyptus, which--thanks to its medicinal uses--always seems to remind us of Vicks.  This version of eucalyptus is more like a blend of scents complementary to eucalyptus; a melange of tea tree oil, hints of mint, and a touch of lavender.  This candle gets great reviews from all who buy it.

Lavender:  Who doesn't like lavender? This candle is absolutely lovely, clean, and calming.  Sure to please at any time of day, any time of year.  It's a classic.

An Accessory for Every Man

While it may be true that clothes make the man, a little known fact is that accessories make the man stylish. Though clothes are more prominent, accessories--like all fine details--offer more information about the person wearing them as well as the opportunity for fun in men's otherwise limited wardrobe options.

Ties are a great way to express creativity in a man's wardrobe. Are you as skinny tie or a fat tie? Solid or pattern...or picture? Are you a bowtie? Clip or not? There are limitless options when it comes to neckware. Tie clip? Tie bar? Tie tack? Or how about a small brooch instead of the conventional tie fasteners?

Like tie clips, cufflinks are also historically accepted man jewelry, letting you don a some flair while staying within the lines.  Cufflinks say "I'm not afraid to wear nice things even if all my friends are wearing t-shirts."  With styles range from decorative to monogram, brushed metallic to gemstones--you really can't get bored!

But if you're not yet comfortable venturing into the world of Mad Men-esque ornamentation, the good old fashion belt buckle is always here for you.

All of the above and more are available at Dovetail Chicago.

Dovetail Chicago featured in Eat.Shop Chicago

Dovetail is proud to announce that we will be featured in this year's edition of Eat.Shop Chicago. The Eat.Shop books are series of locally focused guides covering small business (mainly restaurants and boutiques) in cities--both big and small--worldwide.

Like the NFT (Not for Toursists) guides we're all familiar with, the books are informative for both tourists and locals; however, unlike the NFT guides, Eat.Shop only spotlights carefully chosen, unique local businesses--no chains, no tourist traps, no gimmicks.

In addition to serving as a trustworthy guide, the books are minimalist, stylish, and small--you can fit one into a modest handbag, so there's no having to negotiate between taking your umbrella or taking your Eat.Shop guide. And at only $14.95 per book, who can resist? The Eat.Shop Chicago guide will be available for purchase in the coming weeks.

Stylish New Handbags at Dovetail

Jennifer recently went on an adventure in Iowa to visit a very eclectic collector with an amazing variety of vintage. She came back with some of the best pieces ever to appear at Dovetail. I think a good place to start is with the handbags.

The alligator clutch pictured above is in extraordinary condition. The texture is incredible, with each ridge creating a clear valley and hill on the landscape of the bag while at the same time managing to be softer and creamier than goat leather. This bag is truly a staple.

More pictures of new items to come. If you can't wait, come into Dovetail and check them out in person!

Environmental Encroachment Drops in Friday for an Ad Hoc Show

Environmental Encroachment stopped by the opening of Ray Pride's photo show, "Far. And Near" for a pleasantly unexpected sidewalk performance. The video starts off a little show but really gets going around the 2-minute mark. Feel free to fast forward. Enjoy!

Ray Pride Photo Show at Dovetail Chicago

The photography of Ray Pride is currently being showcased at Dovetail through the end of October. His exhibit "Far. and Near" is two shows - "Far." at Myopic Books in Wicker Park, and "Near" at Dovetail through November 5th.

Viking Ship TV Lamp

Ahoy! Do your aesthetic prefernces lean toward nautical themes? Do you find yourself yelling "Land Ho" when exiting the el? Do you keep a cutlass hidden under your bed? If you answered "yes" to any of the questions above, then Dovetail Chicago has the lamp for you!

This amazing ceramic Viking Ship tv lamp is sure to please seafarers and landloafers alike. TV lamps were invented in the 1950s as home television sets gained increasing popularity. These decorative, ceramic, sculptural lamps were placed on top of televisions to provide ambient lighting while watching television in the dark at home.

This viking ship lamp depicts a ship sailing in rough waters, with waves spashing against it. It looks great during the day as well as in the dark. A perfect example of functional art, this viking ship lamp is sure to be salvaged when the time comes to throw the rest of your flotsam and jetsam overboard.

Available now at Dovetail Chicago.

Vintag Playboys at Dovetail

Guys are always saying that they read Playboy for the articles and I never believed them, that is, until Dovetail acquired a small collection of vintage Playboy magazines from the early 1970s. Not only do they have well-written articles with prominet artists (Jane Birken, Salvador Dali, Stanley Kubrik) but they also have some amazing (and sometimes hilarious) print ads. We've included some of our favorites below. These would be great inspiration for art projects, photograpy, or fashion styling.

Pretty Spring Jewelry at Dovetail!

Here at Dovetail Chicago, We have a lot of fantastic spring items this year! So much to photograph but we have to start somewhere...and I think jewelry is just the place to start.

Givenchy costume jewelry set: necklace, clip earrings (which could easily be converted into posts), and a brooch. Great silvertone and goldtone fish scale detail. Beautiful, affordable designer set.

This pocket watch chain makes for an interesting necklace with it's perfect balance of delicate beauty and hardware.

If you're feeling Nautical, this sailboat pin is perfect! And if it's getting too windy out there on the lake, feel safe with the anchor necklace.

What's more magical than this sweet little horse pin? Absolutely nothing! Sterling silver and rhinestones.

This scotty dog pin doubles as a perfume bottle (or teeny tiny flask). Who can resist the dog/bow combo?

One of our favorites here at Dovetail is this crazy, over-the-top statement necklace. This would look great on a simple solid dress or a racerback tank and jeans. Absolutely stunning.

And of course, some fun color accent pieces:
